About Chen style Taijiquan

The Chen Family is credited as being the originators of Taijiquan. The style traces its roots back to the 1600s and is characterized by a blend of quick explosive movements, Chan Si Gong (silk reeling energy), and slow, circular movements.

Chan Si Gong
The Taijiquan expresses a co-ordinated movement of internal energy, or chi. Identification and control of internal energy can be initiated and enhanced through the practice of Chan Si Gong, or Silk Reeling. Through a combination of correct posture and defined whole body movements the Chan Si Gong aims to cultivate the flow of internal energy.

Xan Xiou
Standing meditation, as with Chan Si Gong, uses correct posture to enhance the experience of internal chi flow. It demands a state of mind, or no-mind, to exist in order for wu-wei, stillness or non-action to exist.

In the words of the dao te ching, the dao abides in non-action, yet nothing is left undone.
